For April I read the book ‘Change Your Paradigm, Change Your life’ by Bob Proctor and he mentioned Earl Nightingale several times. I’ve learned over the years that when someone mentions something more than three times, you might want to pay attention. đ
I had heard the name Earl Nightingale, from my Dad I’m sure, but I had no idea who he was or what books he had written…so I looked him up. Come to find out he was a radio speaker and author that spoke on human character development, motivation, and meaningful existence. He actually narrated a condensed audio version of Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill which was produced by Success Motivation Institute, the very same Institute that my Dad purchased all his motivational and success records from.
In 1956, Earl Nightingale did a spoken word record, The Strangest Secret, which sold more than a million copies, making it the first spoken-word recording to achieve Gold Record status.
How cool is that??? The very same man my Dad had us listening to is now the man I’m listening to 35+ years later. I honestly think my Dad had this record ‘The Strangest Secret’ but it’s not part of the collection I got years ago.
I did what any person today would do and found that recording on YouTube. I have highlights upon highlights for this short but powerful little book here but I wanted to share with you all my 30-Day Test. It’s a way to hold myself accountable and gives me a place to come back to years later to read.
It’s also one of those things that I MUST do CONSISTENTLY, as this has been my greatest struggle when it come to my entrepreneurial life.
Before you begin this challenge keep in mind these 5 important points we must learn if we want to achieve the wonderful life that can be ours. They are…
- You will become what you think about.
- Remember the word imagination and let your mind begin to soar.
- Courage: Concentrate on your goal every day.
- Save 10% of what you earn.
- Action: Ideas are worthless unless we act on them.
30 DAY Challenge
Here is how the 30 day test works: For the next 30-days follow each of these steps every day until you have achieved your goal.
1. Write on one side of the card what it is you want more than anything else. It may be more money. Perhaps youâd like to double your income or make a specific amount of money. It may be a beautiful home. It may be success at your job. It may be a particular position in life. It could be a more harmonious family. Write it down on your card specifically what it is you want. Make sure itâs a single goal and clearly defined.
On the opposite side of this card you want to write down: ASK & it shall be give, SEEK and you shall find, KNOCK and it shall be opened unto you. You don’t need to show it to anyone, but choose a card that you can carry around with you so you can look at it several times a day. When you think about this goal you want to think about it in a cheerful, relaxed, positive way each morning when you get up so that you immediately have something to work for â something to get out of bed for, something to live for.
Look at it every night before going to bed. As you look at it, remember that you must become what you think about, and since youâre thinking about your goal, you realize that soon it will be yours. In fact, itâs really yours the moment you write it down and begin to think about it.
Tips on Staying Consistent
Stop thinking about what it is you fear. Each time a fearful or negative thought comes into your mind, replace it with a mental picture of your positive and worthwhile goal. And there will come a time when youâll feel like giving up. Itâs easier for a human being to think negatively than positively. Thatâs why only five percent are successful! You must begin now to place yourself in that group.
âAct as though it were impossible to fail,â as Dorothea Brande said. No matter what your goal â if youâve kept your goal before you every day â youâll wonder and marvel at this new life youâve found.
3. Your success will always be measured by the quality and quantity of service you render. Most people will tell you that they want to make money, without understanding this law. The only people who make money work in a mint. The rest of us must earn money. This is what causes those who keep looking for something for nothing, or a free ride, to fail in life. Success is not the result of making money; earning money is the result of success â and success is in direct proportion to our service.
Most people have this law backwards. Itâs like the man who stands in front of the stove and says to it: âGive me heat and then Iâll add the wood.â How many men and women do you know, or do you suppose there are today, who take the same attitude toward life? There are millions.
Weâve got to put the fuel in before we can expect heat. Likewise, weâve got to be of service first before we can expect money. Donât concern yourself with the money. Be of service ⊠build ⊠work ⊠dream ⊠create! Do this and youâll find there is no limit to the prosperity and abundance that will come to you.
